Health Information

International travel may require immunizations or preventative medicines. Please refer to the US Center for Disease Control’s Traveler’s Health Information Page for recommendations. The Center for International Education recommends that each student have a personalized medical consultation prior to international travel.

This program includes moderate-to-rigorous hiking through uneven terrain and significant walking. Ferry rides are also included on the itinerary.

Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are among the oldest extant works of Western literature. Follow in the footsteps of Odysseus, accompanied by UMW Faculty Dr. Angela Pitts and Dr. Joe Romero,  as we visit archaeological sites like Mycenae, Ithaca, and Crete. Glory in the remote mountain sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi and climb a volcano that ended a Bronze Age civilization. Swim in the wine-dark Aegean Sea and visit ancient Sparta, the famed home of Helen of Troy.

Accommodations

Students will stay in triple-occupancy hotel accommodations. Breakfast and WiFi included at each location.

Additional Excursion

Students have the option to opt-into an additional excursion for a 3-hour traditional Kaiki boat tour and volcano and hot springs visit while in Santorini. The additional cost for this excursion is $258 and will require a minimum of 6 students to partake. Should fewer than six students register for this excursion, the event will be cancelled and the additional cost refunded to those students who had paid the fee. Email Sarah Moran, smoran2@umw.edu, at time of registration, to opt-into this excursion and include the extra payment in your final balance amount.
