The U.K. Soccer Experience is an experiential three credit special topics Business course. Students will spend classroom time reading, discussing, learning about, and experiencing through various mediums the business aspects of football (soccer) in the U.K. The relationship between the U.K. football environment and the historical, cultural, social, religious, and economic relevance to the U.K. will also be examined. During spring break, join Dr. Dave Henderson and Dr. Ken Machande in England for an intensive look at business aspects of football. While in England, students will visit some of the football clubs they have studied through readings and classroom discussions. Students will also have a chance to meet with club officials to learn about the business aspects of football in the U.K. and to attend multiple football matches.

  • Attend a football match in London and spend the day exploring the city’s world-famous historical sites.
  • Travel by rail to visit clubs, tour stadiums, and meet with club officials.
  • Experience the National Football Museum in Manchester and attend an English Premier League match.
  • View Dr. Henderson’s webpage for photos and more information about the program.

Students will stay in comfortable local hotels.  All accommodations are double occupancy and most include breakfast.

Students will earn 3 course credits for BUAD 471: U.K. Soccer Experience. While taking part in the course, students will:

  • Learn how functional areas of business (e.g., marketing, accounting, finance, and management) operate in the U.K. football environment.
  • Understand the impact of football in the U.K. on the economic, historical, and cultural aspects of the U.K.
  • Explore the effect of statistical and data analysis on U.K. football.

Class will meet weekly throughout the Spring 2020 semester, with travel during spring break. This course satisfies the Experiential Learning OR Global Inquiry general education requirement by contract with the Faculty Director.
