Here are a few facts about this spring break program:
Focus: Museums in London: museums and national identity. We will look at a lot of art (old and new) and explore the city of London.
Cost: $3200
Credits: 1-credit course with either Experiential Learning or Global Inquiry. There is no additional tuition fee for this course. However, you will need to register for it when you register for spring 2017 classes later this semester.
What’s included: airfare, 4-star hotel (Hilton Kensington), all breakfasts, four group dinners, museum pass, underground pass.
What’s not included: other meals, personal expenses, travel to and from Dulles airport.
Deadline to register: November 1.
The U.K. Soccer Experience is an experiential three credit special topics Business course. Students will spend classroom time reading, discussing, learning about, and experiencing through various mediums the business aspects of football (soccer) in the U.K. The relationship between the U.K. football environment and the historical, cultural, social, religious, and economic relevance to the U.K. will also be examined. During spring break, join Dr. Dave Henderson and Dr. Ken Machande in England for an intensive look at business aspects of football. While in England, students will visit some of the football clubs they have studied through readings and classroom discussions. Students will also have a chance to meet with club officials to learn about the business aspects of football in the U.K. and to attend multiple football matches.
Attend a football match in London and spend the day exploring the city’s world-famous historical sites.
Travel by rail to visit Championship league clubs, tour stadiums, and meet with club officials.
Experience the National Football Museum in Manchester and attend an English Premier League match.

Spend your summer in London, England with the College of Education, in partnership with London South Bank University. Gain an international perspective on education while seeing the breathtaking sights of this historic city:
Visit the world-famous London Eye and Big Ben clock tower on the banks of the River Thames.
Explore the remarkable British Museum, which was founded in 1753 and features a collection of over 8 million items.
Take a day-trip to Stonehenge.
Stroll through London’s breathtaking palaces and treat yourself to the sights of Westminster Abbey.
Students will earn 6 transfer credits for two 3-credit courses at London South Bank University: Instructional Design and Assessment, taught by UMW’s Dr. Janine Davis, as well as an additional 3-credit course at LSBU.

Mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation for all Spring 2017 semester abroad students. Bring a notebook and come ready for a lot of important information re: international travel and your semester abroad.
Spend two weeks tracing the history of biological science in Europe with Dr. Deborah O’Dell and Dr. Deborah Zies. This program will focus on the development of selected major Biological theories and European scientists who contributed to them. Students will earn three credits while seeing the laboratories of Watson and Crick, Pasteur and Mendel and gaining an appreciation for the physical and social environment under which they worked.
* Begin in England with a London City Tour.
* Visit Downe House, Charles Darwin’s home and Cambridge gardens.
* Take the EuroStar to Paris to tour the Natural History Museum and Pasteur Institute.
* Fly to Berlin to take in the Museum of Medical History.
* End your stay in Brno, Czech Republic for views of the Gregor Mendel exhibits at St. Thomas’ Abbey and the Moravian Museum.

Travel to Gotland Island and follow in the footsteps of Sweden’s ancient explorers. Explore historical sites where the Vikings left their mark, walk pilgrim paths, and hike and cycle around Gotland to experience the atmosphere and astonishing scenery in and round Visby, an outstanding example of a north European medieval walled trading town and world heritage site.
Travel north to Faro by ferry and tour the Bergman Museum. Learn about the cinematic legacy of Swedish filmmaker, Ingmar Bergman, who is famous for dying on Gotland after having worked there for years.
Tour the Gotland Museum and Swedish historical sites to find inspiration for your game design.
Explore Sweden’s contribution to Nordic Noir, a genre of Scandinavian crime fiction and television drama that typically features dark storylines and bleak urban settings.
