UMW Faculty-led Program Participant Cancellation Policy
In the unfortunate event that a student/participant should choose to withdraw from a UMW Faculty-Led Program, refunds will be issued according to the following schedule:
Cancellation more than 90 days prior to departure: Forfeit non-refundable deposit.
Cancellation 60-89 days prior to departure: Forfeit deposit and 50% of program fees or the total amount that has already been spent on the student’s behalf for airfare, ground transportation, lodgings, tuition at an overseas institution, admissions, and/or any other non-refundable items, whichever is greater.
Cancellation less than 60 days from departure: Forfeit deposit and 100% of program fee.
If cancelling for a medical reason, the participant must submit a written physician statement substantiating this claim. Partial refunds may be granted under these circumstances for recoverable expenses only. However, that is for the Faculty Director and the Center for International Education (CIE) to determine on a case-by-case basis.
CIE highly recommends that participants purchase additional trip interruption/cancellation insurance (separate from international medical insurance) which is available through a variety of providers.
Should UMW cancel the program due to under-enrollment, 100% of the student’s payments will be refunded. If UMW must cancel the program for another reason (ex. pandemic, political unrest, act of God) students will be refunded the maximum possible, minus any non-recoverable expenses that have been outlaid at the time of program cancellation.
