  • There are many third-party pay-for-service providers and programs that may require fees, some of which may be substantial. Look into these opportunities thoroughly to make sure they are reputable.

Peace Corps – Peace Corps sends volunteers to serve in over 60 countries around the globe. Volunteers must be American citizens and come from all backgrounds to represent the diversity of America abroad. They work at a grassroots level in six different program areas—education, health, environment, youth development, agriculture and community economic development—for a period of 27 months.

U.S. Fulbright – Opportunity for recent graduates to teach English, study or conduct research abroad. This is a competitive program run by the U.S. Department of State and applicants must be U.S. citizens.

IVHQ – volunteer opportunities around the world in a variety of ways.

4+1 Program, UMW/The American College of the Mediterranean (ACM), Aix-en-Provence, France. Many master’s programs at ACM are only one year in length and degrees are available in a variety of disciplines, including: French Studies, International Relations, Business Administration, Art History, International Education Administration, and Media Studies. It is free for UMW students to apply to the programs (application fee waived), there is no GRE/GMAT requirement, students with a 3.0+ GPA are pre-approved for admission. ACM scholarships are also available for qualified applicants.

4+2 Program, UMW/The American College of the Mediterranean (ACM), Aix-en-Provence, France. The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting program at ACM is two years in length. It is free for UMW students to apply to the program (application fee waived), students with a 3.0+ GPA are pre-approved for entry. ACM scholarships are also available for qualified applicants.

4+1 Program, UMW-Instituto Franklin (IF)/University of Alcala, Madrid, Spain. The Teach & Learn in Spain is a 1-year graduate program designed for native or near-native English speakers. Through this program, students earn a Master’s degree while gaining experience in a school in the region of Madrid as a Language Assistant. This program implements a hybrid learning model so students can experience life in Spain, complete a language assistantship (with a monthly stipend), while earning a graduate degree in one of the 8 tracks offered in the areas of teaching, international education, bilingual and multicultural education, teaching Spanish as a foreign language, school management, global higher education, information and communication technology in education and ESL and bilingual education. Whereas no standardized test is required, applicants are expected to have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA in their undergraduate degree.

4+1 Program, UMW-Deusto Business School (DBS), Bilbao and San Sebastian, Basque Country, Spain. Directly following their undergraduate degree, students may earn their Master’s in Management (MiM) or Master’s in European and International Business Management (EIBM) in approximately a year and a half. These program are designed to accommodate any undergraduate major/minor and offers several options for language of instruction as well as an international internship period. The EIBM is a tri-lingual program and it includes student mobility to France and the UK. Both programs include professional internships. There is no application fee, and whereas no admissions test is required, candidates must submit a brief personal statement to accompany their academic record and curriculum vitae and undergo an interview with the program director. DBS scholarships are also available to qualifying students.

4+1 Program, UMW-Bangor University (BU), Wales, UK. Programs are one year and degrees are available in Arts & Humanities, Business, Law, Education, Social Sciences, Health & Behavioral Sciences, and Natural, Physical and Applied Sciences. It is free for UMW students to apply to the programs, there is no GRE requirement, and students with a 3.0+ GPA are pre-approved for entry. BU scholarships available for qualified applicants.

4+1 Program, UMW-University of Reading (UR), Reading, England, UK. Programs are only one year and degrees are available in a variety of disciplines. It is free for UMW students to apply to the programs, there is no GRE requirement for UMW students, and students with a 3.0+ GPA are pre-approved for admission. UR scholarships available for qualified applicants.

4+1 Program, UMW-Swansea University (SU), Swansea, Wales, UK. Programs are only one year and degrees are available in a variety of disciplines. It is free for UMW students to apply to the programs and there is no GRE or GMAT requirement. GPA requirements are typically a 3.0 or above average, with a small number of programs requiring a 3.20. Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
