Determining your “best fit” program relies on a variety of factors:

For all programs that are not under the Faculty-led program category, students will need to complete two parallel paths. The first is with the UMW Center for International Education and the second is with their education abroad program of choice. Once an education abroad program is selected students should Register with CIE. Then, they should begin completing items on the UMW Approved Program Checklist.

  • Continue to check your UMW email while abroad for important information from CIE and/or other relevant UMW Departments.

In the event of an emergency abroad, students and/or families should contact UMW Public Safety at (540) 654-1025 (or from abroad: +011 540 654 1025).  Collect calls are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Public Safety will contact CIE staff after hours as needed.

  • CIE will send a post-program survey to you. We appreciate your feedback!
  • Apply to become a CIE Peer Advisor
  • Volunteer at CIE Events such as the annual Education Abroad Fair and Global Café

Re-entry shock is often something students face when returning home after their education abroad experience, especially if they were away for a lengthy period of time. If needed, please consult with the UMW Talley Center who can provide resources as you adjust back to your life in the US.
