UMW Exchange Programs | Universität Erfurt
For the same UMW tuition you paid this semester, you could study as an exchange student in Germany!
Program Overview
Founded in 1392 and closed in the 1800s, the Universität Erfurt reopened in 1994 with an ambitious reform program that placed it among both the youngest and oldest institutions in Germany. Scholarly excellence, interdisciplinary studies, and a strong international profile characterize this university, with a focus on the humanities and social sciences. The quaint Fredericksburg-sized town of Erfurt is the capital of Thüringia, located in central Germany, making it easy to travel all over the country. Characterized by architectural brilliance, picturesque alleys, and cathedrals, Erfurt is considered one of the most attractive medieval city centers. It is one of the German cities that best survived the bombing raids during WWII. Erfurt is the oldest university in Germany and is Martin Luther’s alma mater. Although it has been modernized by a convenient tram system, a large area of town is strictly for foot traffic, where visitors may stroll down narrow cobblestone streets lined with bakeries, small shops, and street vendors.
