International Student Orientation
International students in F or J visa status, including graduate students, are required to attend International Student Orientation, which is held at the beginning of each semester. The orientation is designed to ease the transition to studying and living in the United States and provides an opportunity to review immigration, academic, financial, and personal matters. The orientation also includes a tour of Fredericksburg and a shopping trip to pick up additional items that students may need while studying at UMW.
Academics
International graduate students are required to enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester at the graduate level in order to maintain their F-1 visa status.
Housing
Most graduate students live off campus and take classes at the Stafford Campus, which is located several miles away from the Fredericksburg Campus. International graduate students are eligible to apply for on-campus housing, but all on-campus housing is located on the Fredericksburg Campus. Unless you have your own vehicle, this will make getting to and from the Stafford Campus difficult, as there is no convenient public transportation between the two campuses.
