This program requires light to moderate levels of activity, with walking and optional hiking as part of the program.

Join Dr. Warren Rochelle of the Department of English, Linguistics, and Communication, in partnership with Dr. Maggie Parke and Bangor University and spend your summer in Wales. Students will have lectures from world-leading Arthurians, and be guided through classic and modern retellings of the Arthurian legend.  They will consider the portrayal of the legends through media other than fiction, including film, comic books, and television. The program also includes a pre-course study trip to the following locations and sites:

  • Harry Potter Studio Tour
  • Stonehenge and Avebury stone monuments
  • Castles including Caernafon, Beaumaris, and Conwy
  • Towns of Glastonbury, Tintagel, Caerleon, and Tywyn
  • Boscastle with a tour of the Witchcraft Museum
  • King Arthur’s Labyrinth

During the pre-course study trip students will be housed in shared bunk room hostels with shared bathrooms.  While at Bangor University students will be housed in single, en-suite rooms on campus.

Students will earn 6 transfer credits for the course titled “Arthurian and Fantasy Literature” taught by Dr. Rochelle. The course usually transfers back as 3 credits in English 379: Fantasy and 3 general elective credits.

This course satisfies the Experiential Learning OR the Global Inquiry general education requirement by contract with the Faculty Director only.
