Health Information

International travel may require immunizations or preventative medicines. Please refer to the US Center for Disease Control’s Traveler’s Health Information Page for recommendations. The UMW Health Center provides free travel consultations by appointment, as well as travel information for UMW students. The Center for International Education recommends that each student have a personalized medical consultation prior to international travel.

This program includes moderate amounts of walking each day.

 

 

Spend your summer in France with Dr. Rachel Graefe-Anderson of the College of Business, in partnership with the American Business School of Paris. Discover French business culture and learn key skills to successful international business interactions in the context of this bustling cultural metropolis.

  • Enjoy the world-famous sights of Paris, home to the Eiffel Tower and L’Arc de Triomphe.
  • See and be seen on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
  • Experience Parisian culture firsthand with the opportunity to enjoy a home stay in a French household.
  • Take part in a trip to Reims to visit the famous Champagne vineyard.
  • Cozy up in traditional bakeries, historic restaurants, and crêperies.

Accommodations

Included in the estimated cost of the program listed on this page are double-occupancy rooms in shared apartments, with no meals included. For an additional cost, students may opt for local home stays with a meal plan of their choice. Alternatively, for an additional cost, students may elect to stay in a single occupancy room in a shared apartment. All housing fees are payable directly to Comforts of Home Paris (apartments) or Host Families in Paris (home stays).

Coursework

Students will earn 6 transfer credits for two 3-credit courses at the American Business School of Paris: International Corporate Governance, taught by UMW’s Dr. Graefe-Anderson, as well as your choice of an additional 3-credit course offered at ABS.  Optional courses include:  Microeconomics, Organizational Behavior, Consumer Behavior, International Relations and European Strategies, Doing Business in Asia, Behavioral Economics, or Strategic Brand Management (subject to availability.)

Coursework will include:

  • Case studies and group work focused on the current challenges in the European business market.
  • Exposure to French creativity in the luxury and fashion sectors through visitors from such companies as Bucherer, Louis Vuitton, and Galaries Lafayette.
  • Examination of EU policy in trade, management, finance, and communication.

This course satisfies the Experiential Learning OR Global Inquiry general education requirement by contract with the professor only.

Requirements & Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites for this program. Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in order to participate. As per UMW credit transfer policies, a grade of C or above is required for courses taught abroad to transfer back to UMW.  This program is open to all UMW students regardless of major or year of study. It is also open to non-UMW students.
