International Students and Scholars

Welcome to the University of Mary Washington!

The international community at UMW greatly enriches the cultural, intellectual, and social life of the University. The Center for International Education (CIE) is aware of the demands associated with studying, working, and living in another country and is available to assist international students and scholars and their families in matters related to their immigration status, employment, housing, health insurance, medical care, social security, income tax regulations, financial aid, and personal concerns.

CIE provides international students and scholars the opportunity to engage in American cultural activities and events.  CIE also oversees the InterLink Mentor Program, connecting each incoming international student with a UMW student counterpart to develop friendships as well as participation in a series of cultural enrichment and service opportunities throughout the year.  Cultural enrichment events have included excursions to Washington DC, the rodeo, and the “Halloween Haunt” at a regional amusement park, in addition to multiple on-campus activities each semester.
